    Hides while Breeding..?
Do you all think that it might distract and or if there isn't enough room for the male also that it may interfere with potential locks?

Or am I just being WAY too analytical and just let em' get it on.. I have a feeling that It could go either way and if the male is active enough and the female is ready (which they all are more then enough ready) that it will happen regardless?

Your thoughts and what you all do are much appreciated as always!

(I love this website btw..) :D Anything and everything you could ever imagine is here, along with different opinions and expert ideas. LOVE IT! Thanks for everything once again BP.NET!!!

If they're really enthusiastic about it, they will find ways to lock. But mostly I find they're content to cuddle together rather than engaging in the relevant activity. So I leave the hides out when pairing.

I do pair them on newsprint paper, and my pied female likes to tunnel under the paper and "make" her own extra-large hide. This behavior doesn't seem to interfere with breeding at all.

Black pastel! He's not very dark, I know, but I liked that black back.

He been locking a lot with her, but the pied just isn't building follicles. So I think I may stop pairing them in the next few weeks and try to feed her up for this coming fall?

This is my first season breeding, the only thing I had in with my normal female and my male spider was a water bowl. The first time I put them together she got all swollen (building), the next time I placed him in there after she had shed they did the snake dance (lock). Again the only thing in the tub was newspaper on the bottom and a water bowl. Now I'm at the count down. :D. Personally this is just me but whether it's breeding or feeding, the only thing in the tub is the water bowl. Good luck :gj:

Thanks so much guys.. It's funny, we are basically on the same page. I have been keeping them out also, use the unprinted newsprint and they burrow under it just fine if needed. Water bowl obvi stays in, and half the time they just hang together on top of the paper and do their...well, you know - "business".

I had a late start this season, so I'm hoping after all these lock I have had that the females are still going to go, haven't had much luck with palpating for follicles so I guess I'll just keep at it until I hopefully see an ovy here sometime soon. Good luck to me and Good luck to all of you!
