What to do in case of a natural disaster?
Since I know some of us have very very expensive collections, what are your guys plan in case of a natural disaster. For me I live in california so we have earthquakes, for the rest of you maybe you get tornados or hurricanes etc. my question is for those w thousands and thousands of dollars invested in you snakes what are your plans is you so happen.to be affected by one of these disasters. Do you leave your snakes do you take them w you do you have a plan?
Lets the discussion begin
Re: What to do in case of a natural disaster?
We get all kinds of crazy stuff here in Kansas. Even had a blizzard a few months ago.
My plan is to grab pillow cases, hand warmers, and a get everyone into a tub. Then down to the basement we go. Once I get there, I should be able to pillow everyone and put them into the tub with the heat packs on the top of one side (so as not to burn them). Everything I need is in the closet, in the snake room. I have never had to do it, but I hope it can be done quickly. Of course, I only have 11, and just added a little burm to the mix. Of course, he'll have to have his own disaster plan. I'm pretty sure the balls would not like waking up next to a burm. He might steal the covers!

I have a generator and enough gas to run it for 24 hours if need be. Other than loss of power I don't expect much in the way of disasters here in CO.

In AZ our biggest threat is the heat in the summer. If power goes out or A/C breaks it is only a matter of a few hours before it is dangerously hot inside the building. Basic first emergency action is get every snake bagged up and to any one of our friends or families' places until the situation is resolved.
Power outages seem to be less common than they once were and are usually only an hour or so, but A/C failure is always a concern in the back of our mind.
