Post Your Zoo Stories!

Ok, I want to know if any of you have ever had an experience with a person at a zoo that just took you by surprise.

Mine, was when I was at the San Antonio zoo in TX. I was looking at the Cheetas, so beautiful, admiring their grace and beauty. Then, the moment was ruined when a lady said....

"THE ANIMALS HERE ARE SO LAZY!! WHY IS THIS STUPID TIGER JUST SITTING THERE DOING NOTHING??!! UGH! I HATE THIS PLACE LETS GET OUT OF HERE!!"

I I was so PISSED. She was right next to me. I said to her "first off, lady, its a fricking CHEETA, not a tiger, do you see stripes on that cat? And second, the cat isn't just goin to jump up and run 70 mph just to please you."

Some people are just dumb.

Sometimes you just have put up with people. At least she knows it is a cheetah now. LOL

Funny story.

I was at a zoo in I think Florida, and there was this hippo.

And in front of this hippo, there was this sign...

This man walks up in a white shirt and white shorts and started antagonizing the hippo. I politely walked up to him and told him to be careful, and that the hippo doesn't enjoy being yelled at and insulted :P. He was calling him fatty, etc...

Well, I start walking off when I hear this horrible scream, only to turn around and find the man covered in brown angry hippo insult.

I loved the hippo story. I wish more people got what they deserved.

I deal with crazy people WAYY too often.

This one lady came in stating "well, I don't want to feed my bearded dragon live insects, because I don't kill animals. My dogs are even vegetarians."
I WISH I was allowed to say anything besides try to compromise about the beardy.. FUUUU

OMG the hippo was awesome!!!

I have a good story... I use to work on weekends at the wildlife world zoo in glendale, az. I worked under the zoo keeper for the small mammals. Right from the start he would always be like....Just go ahead and grab that out of there. Afte.r I did it he would say ....wow..you didn't get bit :rolleyes:

Anyways, my first day there I was cleaning the cages and there was a large black and white lemur. He immediately came over and pee'd on me :O I later figured out he was claiming me for his own. From then on....whenever I would be in his cage he had to hang on me and love on me. It was so cute. The lemur did not like children and would scream loudly when they would come in. Apparently there had been a field trip and the lemur refused to eat.....I had to come in and hand feed him and hold him until he calmed down. I loved that guy!!!! Unfortunately I had to leave the zoo when I found out I was prego.

But that is my story.....I have such a fond memory of that zoo and my time spent there.

I have a sad story but it was also crazy. When I was little, about 10 years old, I was at the Lincoln park zoo looking at the lions. Right across from the lions at the time was the wolf enclosure. This was before they added the big pit around it. Anyway some guy was running through the zoo with his dog who was not on a leash, this was a large German Shepard like dog too and as soon as he saw the wolves he went nuts and jumped in there with them. Well as lazy as they looked those wolves moved super fast once that dog was in there and literally devoured this poor dog within seconds. It was awful! It is also why dogs aren't allowed in the zoo for a good reason.
