kingsnake temperment?

just wondering..what is the temperment of most kingsnakes? easily handleable? are they very active in there enclosures?

I have 2 cal kings. One, who is the larger one, is nice most of the time, but does bite from time to time. My other one, who is still a little guy, bites like crazy (but they are all bluffs, he doesn't even lay a tooth on me, just hits my hand with his mouth) and musks all over me when I pick him up. But as he gets older and bigger he is starting to tame down just a little bit.

It's always good to have an agressive snake in a collection, keeps you on your toes!

In my experience, they are active snakes. At night, while in my bed, I hear them roaming around their cages...tipping cage furnitutre over, burrowing in their aspen...they do it during the day too. Handleable? Yeah, they are, once they are used to you. They are good snakes to have, I love them.

Well, I have 6 Kingsnakes. In all reality 10 since Milksnakes are a type of Kingsnake. But, as for "actual" Kingsnakes I have 2 adults and 4 Juvi's. One of the 4 Juvi's loves to be handled. As for the adults my female Lavender loves to be handled and my male Albino rattles his tail and likes to strike until he is out of the enclosure. But, once he's out he mellows out. As far as in the enclosures they are a little more active than BP's but, mostly during the night!

My yearling MBK has a great attitude. Tried to bite me once when I first got him as a baby but that was it. Hes never missed a meal. Now he loves to be handled, he just sits there while I pick him up and even looks at me through the glass basically begging to be held.

I've never met snakes with such a wild range of temperment than kingsnakes.

As far as captive specimens go, I've met adults that are every bit as nice as you could ask for, if a bit hyper. I've also met adults that do nothing but bite, and they BITE and HOLD ON (not a feeding response either).

Another note on kings: They are the only wild snake I've encountered in the US that I haven't found AT LEAST ONE specimen that was reluctant to bite.. on average I'd say that wild copperheads, water snakes, garters, corns, and texas rats are all calmer than wild kings.
