    Enclosure size
I have an 06 JCP coming in about a month that I picked up in a trade, well we are ball python people so the original plan was to trade her or sell her for a ball of some sort. That was before we held her. Lol. She is dog tame, eats F/T, and has awesome color (jet black and school bus yellow). So anyway she's likely to remain in our collection for at least a while. Lol.

So here's my question; I have a space that will fit a 24" x 48" footprint for a cage. I would like to build 2 - 24" wide by 24" deep x 30" tall so I could make room for a future GTP. But I'm thinking those dimensions would be too small. Would that enclosure be big enough? If not could I go 24" wide x 24" deep x 36" tall to make it enough?

    Thanks in advance.

How big is she? Because that really is what the size of enclosure depends on, I picked up a male which is about 3 and a half feet long right now, I've got him in a 2 foot, by 2 foot enclosure for now but in a years time I'll move him into a 4 foot by 3 foot.

Anthony Caponetto has a great Carpet care sheet that goes over cage sizes.

AdultsAdult Jungle carpets and Irian Jaya carpets should be kept in a cage with a minimum of 4-6 square feet of floor space, such as a 2'x2' or a 3' x 2' cage. As a rule of thumb for pythons in general, some keepers say that one square foot of floor space per foot in length is optimal, but I think slightly less than one square foot is fine for carpets, due to their slim build.

Cage height is a subjective subject! What's best for your snakes has a great deal to do with the temperature and humidity in the room that the cages are in. My carpet rooms drop into the low 70's in the dead of winter, so cages any more than about 15" high become problematic, as the taller the cage is, the more become difficult to maintain a proper heat gradient and proper humidity. Recently I have had great success breeding carpets in rack systems that house tubs 6.5" to 8.5" high, and the snakes do not appear to be cramped or unhappy in any way. In fact some of the more shy carpets I own have actually done better after being moved to a smaller space.

No problem :). Can't wait to see pictures of her. I have to live vicariously through others for now haha, we have plans to get a JCP and a Jungle Jag but not for a while.

I keep my 6+ footer in a 4x2x2, and I personally wouldn't go any smaller on footprint, but I could give in and go as short as 15'' tall.

The problem I'm having is floor space Height isn't an issue but floor space is at a bit of a premium.

sounds like carpets aren't really for you at the time! adults are not usually very arboreal but like to stretch out quite a bit.

Let me rephrase: I CAN build bigger I'm just being stingy with my reptile room lol. If it has to be bigger it will be I was just hoping to limit it some.
