    Mites on People?
I seen on another post people complaining about mite problems on their rats. Can these mites infect/infest humans? Are these mites the same specie that infect reptiles?

    Just wondering...

They are not the same as reptile, or bird mites. The mites that are on rats, or lice, can usually bite people, but the won't typically 'infest' humans, as they prefer their rat hosts. ;)

They will bite, and it HURTS. . . Well, it's more irritating, than anything else.:(

Though they can certainly bite you and get on you, rat mite/lice can't infest you like they can rats. The Rat and Mouse Club of America call lice "species specific," meaning they will not cross from one species to another. The mites/lice that infect rats are different then the mites/lice that infect us humans. This is the same reason why if we are infected with lice/mites we can't transfer them to the rats. Hope this helps! :)

They will "try" you out though.... Annoying as all get up.
