Need help with wife's school paper
My wife is doing a paper for her final in school. Everyone that would like to help just simply answer this question:
"Why should private citizens be allowed to own, breed, and sell exotic animals?"
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Because we live in the "land of the free".
Big Gunns has a question that maybe should be asked of the powers that be.
What makes an animal an "exotic"? Does that mean different from the normal pet?
BG just hit wiki and now it's says that reptiles are no longer considered "exotic". We need to point this out.

Hold on a second. "School"??? When did you hilbilly's down there learn how to read?:D:D

I think private citizens should be able to breed, sell and own exotic animals because it is just as much their right to do so with these type of animals as it is the right for another private citizen to own, breed and sell dogs. But, just as with people who do this with dogs, or even cats, they should educate themselves first before they do so.

Is she allowed to change the angle of the paper?
It seems "Why shouldn't private citizens be allowed to own, breed, and sell exotic animals?" is a better a question.
Then field the common objections such as "But, it could escape and eat my child!", "But, lots of people are scared of them.". etc.
I would say the strongest argument for why private citizens should be able to own, breed, and sell exotic animals is because it infringes upon no one's liberty or rights.

The government feels the need to protect us from ourselves. They(which is really us bribed by lobbyists) obviously know much better what's good for all of us.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
This is the land of the dollar.....make no mistake about it. If we had more money than everyone that does not want us to own reptiles there would be no laws against it. Sad...but very true.

Re: Need help with wife's school paper
If it is for school, then she is going to need references to source material, not opinions. For example, compare statistics of exotic animal attacks to statistics of domestic animal attacks. Granted there are not as many exotics kept in the pet trade as domesic, but she could do a ratio. I hear of dog attacks quite often.

Re: Need help with wife's school paper
Heh,
Because the so called exotics have so far been seen to, and indeed can only, do less damage to the indigenous wildlife than has already been done by the so called domesticated pets.
Compared to the problems caused by cats, dogs and well meaning "fish for food" species being introduced into the various ecosystems around the world the pythons in florida are a fart in a thimble.
They also, at this current point, have a far greater potential to be used as a gene bank to repopulate the wild in the case of ecological disaster than any other class of pet.
