New Red Tail Boa

Hi all. We just adopted a gorgeous red tail boa tonight. She is QT'd away from our ball pythons, including the new one that is also in QT. I've been doing some reading just to familiarize myself with the snake (my wife knows a bit more about them, I'm the BP fanatic in the house), and I've been reading on other websites that RTB's enjoy being submerged in their water bowl. Is this correct? I know it isn't a BP thing so I was worried at first. Thank you!

Feel free to disregard this post. I just answered my own question by, *gasp* Looking at the FAQ's! I've been on this site for months and what's the first thing I do? HELP! Not "Look at the obvious threads, Rick. *facepalm*" Sorry :).

And no, don't give it a water bowl big enough to get into. Fresh water is a must though. I catch my boas drinking all the time.

Jason, I'm curious. Why should I avoid a water bowl big enough for them to get into? She's still really tiny so she fits in the smallest thing I have is a little ceramic dish I used for rats at one point. She is small enough to curl up in it, but it isn't filled very much.

My boa's have never gotten into their bowl unless it was to poop in them. I don't see why it would be bad though. Just like some BPs like to soak, some boa's do too. As long as it isn't a deep bowl she should be fine.

Boas do like it a bit cooler than BPs so if yours does spend time soaking, I would check for signs of mites, and to be sure it isn't too hot in the enclosure.

Just the fact that they for some reason poo while taking a dip.
If the bowl is fairly small, it shouldn't be a problem. I use a 5" ceramic dog dish with my 6' female with no problem.

I see, I see. Thanks for the tip :). Right now she's burrowed under the aspen. We had kind of a freak out when we got home. We looked in there, didn't see her in the hide box or anywhere else. I didn't think she'd be able to squeeze out of a locked tub but I was still worried until we found her hiding from us :).
