plastic over egg tub

How many of you put plastic rap over your egg tubs before you put the lid on and why? Thanks

I don't because of too much humidity, I found it easier to let the tub breath.

I don't. Again, because of humidity.

Being an HVAC technician, I'd just point out that tubs (and houses) don't have lungs, and don't breathe. Basically, you want it to leak is the term.

Even without the press'n seal, my egg tubs are almost at 100% humidity. We tried the plastic on the first tub, and it's nothing but a pain in the butt. We use the substrateless method, so I don't have to worry about too much water escaping.

I use press'n'seal with no lid, and no specific schedule for airing the tub out. Once the eggs pip I fold the press'n'seal back so it only covers 3/4 of the tub and put a lid over top of it.

I use plastic wrap on my crested gecko tupperwares. Since I don't use an incubator and just set them on a shelf in my room, if they were uncovered, the ambient room humidity of ~20% would zap them dry. I let in air about every week or so, and check on them daily after day 50 or so, even though it sometimes takes them 100 days or more to hatch.

I use the press and seal, and everyday I go and take it off wipe it down and reseal. So far I have not lost a egg. Its alot of work but its worth it to me. :gj:

This is my first year, and I am hoping for a clutch! I think I am gonna go with Brian Gundy's method of drilling a hole on each end of the egg tub and not messing around with opening it at all...except for the occasional peek!! ;)

I realize this method has worked for you, and I am by no means a breeding expert (like I said I have never even hatched a clutch). But...I don't understand why the press n seal would be neccessary if you just open the tub everyday anyway. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having an airtight seal via the press and seal.

Maybe I am missing something...
