Egg-cutting Tips?

Ok, so I know there have been a lot of "To cut or Not to cut?" threads, but I have a slight variation. For those of you that successfully cut your eggs:

1) What day is your target for cutting?

2) What do you cut with?

3) How deep/wide do you cut?

4) Is it just a slit, or do you cut a flap (V-shape)?

I wait until day 55 or until the first one pips ( depending on my willpower at the time ).

I cut with a pair of small nail scissors.

Just through the shell and no more for depth - candle for veins first and cut in an area that has the least. And I make the cut long enough that they have plenty of room to get their head out.

If I'm cutting a slit I make it at least an inch long and a V shaped cut is probably better if you are wanting to see the animals pattern.

The sunroofing in the picture above really isn't a good idea - especially if you cut early. It makes it more likely that infection/ dust can get in and the white can dry out more.

If I do sunroof them (usually to take pictures :oops: ) then I make sure to spray them with water to flush them out a little every day and try and remove any "skin" or funny looking areas that form.

Here's mine. :)

1) No target date. I wait for them to pip and if there are any un-pipped a couple days after the first one pipped, I'll cut.

2) A small pair of scissors.

3,4) I pinch the egg and make a very tiny cut... just enough to insert the end of the scissors. Then I just cut the shell in a V formation about 1 to 1.5 inches long on each side. Just enough to flip up the flap to allow me to check on the snake.

I am hoping for my first clutch this year, so I have never cut, nor am I sure if I am or not.

But I did watch this video, and it seems to be very informative if I do decide to cut.
