weighing scales???
is it a good idea to have a scale to weigh my bp.... i wanna get one but they are like 40 bucks for a decent one... i know its not a MUST HAVE item but is it a good idea???

Re: weighing scales???
I think it is, because it gives me a handle on how much I'm feeding and how much my snakes are gaining. Also, if your snake ever goes on a hunger strike, you can monitor and make sure it isn't losing weight easily with a plain old scale that you can find in a kitchen store. Not absolutely necessary, but I would still recommend one if you can maybe find one on sale at a kitchen store or something.

Re: weighing scales???
reptile basics have them for 34.99 and yes they are great to have for a bp so u can tell if they are losing weight when they go off feeding for whatever reasons. so yea i would recommend having one.

I'm glad I have one. It's a nice way to track their health, monitor significant weight gain or loss. I keep up-to-date weights in my "BP Records" in case I would ever need to look back and discuss weight change with a vet for any reason whatsoever. In my opinion, it's a good idea. :)

Eh. If you just have one for a pet I say no. Even if you have several as pets, it's really not a need. The biggest use for it is breeding and selling BPs. If your snake stops eating and loses enough weight to become worrisome you can tell just by looking at them.

Re: weighing scales???
so if i bought a scale... is 11 pound max enough

Re: weighing scales???
More than enough, but if you're buying one solely for your BP I would find one that measures in grams as well.

Re: weighing scales???
ok. ya it weighs in grams as well. just making sure.... i have had him since 09 so he is getting to be a big boy... just didnt know how much a full grown adult male will end up weighing... like his max weight

Re: weighing scales???
I haven't seen anyone bragging about their males' size, but I do remember seeing one for sale at 2500 grams (half of your scale's capacity), which I think is pretty big unless you found one of those jumbo African monsters.

I agree with most everything said above. If you have a single pet or two then you should be seeing your animal enough to tell if it isn't doing well. When you are breeding, selling, or own lots of snakes I think it is a great idea to have a scale for records. I even record the size of meals if I have the time. That being said, overall, I think as a responsible owner everyone should have a scale. I bought mine from Walmart for $30 something dollars and it weighs up to 5000 grams.
