I believe BP.net uses vBadvanced http://www.vbadvanced.com/ (look at the bottom of the page and you should see a little "Powered by" tag.)
If you want to speak with a admin I would recommend sending a PM to either JLC, rabernet or dr del.

I have played around with different forum software and am partial to vBulletin.
However, if you want free, I'd go with Mybb, Invisionfree, or Proboards, since they all seem relatively professional and offer a good degree of flexibility JMHO.

Btw Vbulletin all the way if you have a few bucks. Get a free 24 hour trial board on their website and play around.

As has been mentioned, we use the vBAdvanced version of vBulletin software. You can go to their website to find out what the different options available are, and what the start-up costs are. And as also been mentioned, there are free options available to start with as well.

Discussing our personal budget and costs would be rather pointless because you won't be starting up a site capable of supporting 20,000+ members and tens of thousands of more visitors. You start out small and then gradually grow and expand as your member base does.
