substrate recomended from the new england reptile expo question..

Ok so I went to the new england reptile expo in manchester nh this past sunday and i was in need of some new substrate and I was chatten with a guy that was selling bp's along with supplies.. he recomended me the aged douglas fir bark and sphagnum peat moss.. so I bought it.. was this a wise decision? I used aspen before but had humidity problems.. any input is good and please no critism.. new to bp ownership.. only had him for 2 mths and I can be gullable.. thanks..

Need help please.. I work n don't wanna leave my liven bp is something not recomended..

I'm sorry, I dontknow much about the Douglas fi bark but I haven't really heard of people using it. As for the moss, many people use it, especially in humid hides, I know I do. I also prefer the Aspen bedding bu that's just me. Did he tell you to just mix the two things in the tank? That would be a bit odd...

Maybe the people on at 1am have never used to fir bark and don't want to steer you wrong.....


Anyways, I have never personally use it but I heard it works well for humidity and I have talked to people who use it and they enjoy it. My reccommendation? Use it, if you don't like it, then stop using it.

And I though I was on early at 7 a.m... I have never used it fir bark. Peat moss does work, but is very messy. I use cypress mulch to increase humidity. It works great, and is not messy like moss.

I picked up my first BP at the Expo, a beautiful male pastel, currently setting in in his new tank.
Ive done tons of research and i use aspen, i keep moss in a small container with water in one of the corner of the tank, and also i have two small semi wet towels on top of his tank(20 gal long) and it works great, humidity stays constant around 50% tank temp around 85 ish, and his cold side at around 79 to 82. just my 2 cent. hope it helps.

Its the jungle mix- fir and sphagnum peat moss.. it doesn't say anything bout pythons.. just red tail boas.. it has a chart on back.. I've usd it for 2 weeks now n no problem.. I juss wanna keep him safe..

I use Aspen. But it's the easiest for me although I want to switch over to cypress. But I don't see anything wrong with that mix. Just make sure your humidity isn't too high.
