    Need some help.
My son has a Python about ten months old, we got her for him for christmas. She has shed twice since we have had her, both times were not easy sheds.
This time though a few days after her eyes went milky, he noticed a lump about where the spurs would be but of to the side. When the skin came off it was still there. We looked through a magnifying glass, it looks kind of like she has a scale turned sideways, or possibly a splinter. has anyone heard of something like this or any advice would be appreciated.
I tried to attach a couple of pictures of it but don't know how to get them into post, they are available in my album however.
My son and I would appreciate any help, as we are looking for a snake qualified vet and have not had much luck finding one in our area.

I have no idea what the heck that is. The yellow, bony things sticking out of the side are called anal spurs--all ball pythons have them.
But the swelling, I have no idea. I think you should keep looking for a vet. What state do you live in? Perhaps I could help. If you don't feel comfortable giving that info out it's fine.
    Good luck :)

Thanks for the vet info. We called and talked to one, without actually taking it in they think it is an abcess, and suggested Neo-Sporin or another anti bacterial gel.
    Thanks again.

Just wanted to say thank you for those that replied, Dr Del we contacted Dr. Nancy Carpenter via email with the pictures, she was very helpful and it looks like my son's snake is on the mend.
She seems to think she may have caught a scale on something in the tank (we are looking all over for it now) and got infected. Since we have started using non pain relieving Neo-Sporine on it the swelling has dropped, and she is getting a little more active.
Anyway we wanted to thank you for the help.
