New Pics of My (Pied-Sided?) Bloodred!!

Just a few new photos I snapped today of my '08 bloodred male, Jambi :)

Also, somehow I never heard of "pied-sided" bloodreds until just recently. I always thought his little white spot was nice and cool looking, but otherwise didn't think much of it. I bought him back in July 2008 at the White Plains expo for $20, he was just a little worm thrown in amongst many other little worms in a sort of "bargain bin" that the vendor was trying to clear out at the end of the day. I always thought I got a pretty good deal for a baby bloodred, and now I know I got an even better deal than I ever would've imagined!! haha

So I just had to share a few new pics of him and his white spot!! :D I know it's not nearly as impressive as the "true" pied-sideds that have tons of white, but it still qualifies him as one, right? And if I bred him to another bloodred with some white, I could get higher content white pieds?

First off, great looking snake!

Second off, pied corns are still not completely genetically understood. Thus far, AFAIK, they haven't been uncoupled from bloods, so they appear to be linked, though that is not definite. Also, lots of corns, especially bloods, can have patches of white like that, and still not be pieds (think ringer bps not being pied bps). However, there are pied corns that can have very low expression like yours.

So it is possible he could be a pied, but I wouldn't label him that unless you specifically bought him as one, or prove him out to be one.

I had read a little about it being linked to bloodreds, but I just wanted some confirmation on it. A couple of sites said that pieds could have "varying amounts of white" and when I searched for pics I found a few that only had one or two spots and were labeled as pieds. But yeah, I guess it makes more sense not to label him yet :oops: The breeder just told me he was a bloodred, and I have no idea of his genetics other than that. In any case, it still makes him more special than a regular everyday bloodred, right? I am almost tempted to breed him now just to find out. But would I need another bloodred with white for the most conclusive answer?

You would really want to get another known pied from a stock of known pieds (Don at SMR is really on the forefront of this project), or a het pied. He would be able to give you more information. Breeding it to another snake with white wouldn't really tell you much, unless you got all snakes with patches of white. But if you didn't, then you couldn't be certain one way or the other.

I've never been a huge corn fan but he is gorgeous! I like his little white spot too! :gj:
