Took Thor to the emergency vet last night...
I just wanted to vent a little, because I'm upset, and a bit stressed out about our little baby-a long haired Chihuahua.
My fiance took Thor over to his parents old house that has been sitting for a long time. He went to go clean it with some of his family and was there for an hour before anyone bothered to tell him there was every kind of rat poison there is all over the house. Including a peanut flavored one, that one had me the most freaked out.
So long story short we took Thor to the emergency vet to get checked out after speaking with them and inducing vomiting at home. They checked him out and said he looked fine, but they were worried about him because he's a small dog and we didn't induce vomiting in time to know for sure if he ate any or not. He's on vitamin K12 for the next three weeks to prevent him from bleeding out if he ate any. Rat poison causes internal bleeding and can take a few days to two weeks before you will see any signs. The vet said that she has never had an issue with dogs that were on the med, but I'm still a little stressed of course.
Here are some pictures of our baby.
Sad that mommy put him in there and looking at daddy for help, lol.

On one of our trips, that's Canada behind him.

And yeah, trust me, his family is a piece of work. His mom says she loves her dogs as much as she loves her kids, and I believe it. In the five years I've been with Blake she has already killed one dog because she didn't research the breed (chis are hypoglycimic when they are babies and need supplements) and a second dog, also a breed research issue, has 3 paws in the grave. He has wobblers, but she 'forgets' to give him the meds so she just doesn't bother..... Needless to say we've had our fair share of arguments and avoid each other whenever possible.
I found one more adorable pic of Thor, at my aunt's house. He's so brave, lol

It sounds like she shouldn't be allowed to have dogs. :(
I really hope Thor didn't eat any and is okay. He's an adorable little dog. :)

unfortunately growing up we had a dog/poison incident but it didnt end well.
my dad was out laying poison flakes in the gopher holes all over the property and was unaware that our queensland heeler/bull terrier was behind him eating them. i discovered her bleeding and just acting plain sick some days later and told him i thought she needed to see a vet. my dad's not one to rush any animal to the vet without letting the animal try to heal on its own...bad idea i know.
anyways, when he did finally take her to the vet the vet said it was probably a uterine hemorrhage due to her having had puppies recently but i didnt buy that. they did the surgery to "fix" her thinking that would solve the bleeding issue but she passed away just after the surgery while in recovery actually. they did an autopsy and found some undigested poison flakes still in her belly. i was sitting next to my dad watching tv when he got that phone call and i knew little heidi didnt make it. she left behind 11 puppies which were JUST weaned onto softened puppy kibble.
my dad's lesson from that...he no longer uses poison in the gopher holes & when your kid tells you something is wrong with one of the animals get it checked out. i'm praying for your little guy.
he's such a cutie.

Oh that is such a sad story. We were debating to wait it out and see what happened, but the vet said that you won't know until the dog starts bleeding and by then it's probably too late. That, and with a small dog they don't stand much of a chance. She said he probably didn't eat any, but we were happy to get him checked out and on meds just in case. I hate poisons for so many reasons and this is just one of them.
Thank you so much!
Re: Took Thor to the emergency vet last night...
You did the right thing by bringing Thor to the vet sooner rather than later! I'm sure Thor will be just fine as he got the immediate treatment thats necessary. Working as a vet tech, we see many cases of this and it usually does not turn out well if you decide to wait and see.
