    Ready to join BP family
Hey all. I've been trolling the site the past 2 weeks reading because I'm seriously looking at getting a BP. My daughter showed them to me at the pet store and I guess I kinda caught the bug...so to speak. I'm located in Valdosta, Ga (south Ga about 20 min from the FL border between Tallahassee and Jacksonville)

Of course I'm the type of person to do research so that I do everything right because I'd hate to mess up due to my lack of "training."

So off the bat...thank you all for your posts because I've learned a lot already. I can't promise I won't have a few questions that may be considered dumb so I apologize for that now, but I'd rather ask the experienced than take a guess.

Right now I'm piecing together the home for my BP so that I can get the right stuff from the gate and make sure I can get the humidity levels and temps right before I get the BP.

Thanks again for all you guys have posted. Its kept me busy here at work since I've kinda "worked myself out of a job" for the moment.

    Welcome to the addiction! :welcome:

Don't feel stupid asking questions, everyone here is so great and so helpful, you'll be an expert in no time! It's so good when people do research before doing an impulse buy on any animal, so you're already ahead of the game! They are quite addicting, so be prepared :D

    Thanks LGray,
Being in the military its kinda pounded in my head to always be prepaired. Plus I don't like bad surprises so I like to know what I'm getting myself into before I do anything.

    Thanks all...

Agent...I did read that thread about 5 times. Its a daily thing for me until I actually pick my BP up. If you can't tell I'm very excited to get one. The only question I haven't been able to have answered yet by reading is how often do you all take yours to the vet? I asked around Valdosta and I keep getting told the best bet for a vet for me is in Tallahassee (1.5 hour drive from where I live) and I always plan for every scenario good or bad and thats my only driver for not getting one. God forbid I need an emergency visit, I'd hate to have to drive him/her 1.5 hours away for help.

    Hello, and :welcome: to BP.net.

Snakes really don't need to go to the vet unless they are sick or injured. But, there is nothing wrong with taking them in for general check-ups. I take mine in once for a check-up about a month after I get them, but I take fecal samples in twice a year to make sure they have no internal parasites.

Ok everyone...Today I'm going to start piecing together my habitat for the BP I plan on getting. After reading all of the posts I can read a day while I'm here at work, I plan on getting the tank and substrate today. the tank will be a 20 gal with sliding screen tops that can be locked and the zoo med repti bark for now
