thought i had a male but i think it might actually be a female
I bought what I thought was a male normal about three months ago & I think it might be a female. I've had a set of probes laying around for a while & decided to sex the snake myself . The probe went down 5 scales, I thought maybe I was doing it wrong so I probed my pastel who I know is a male & got 9 scales. I know 2-4 scales means female & 8 or more means male but what about 5 scales?

I think it would be beneficial for you to learn how to "pop" your snakes. I feel that this is more of a fool proof method of sexing... they either have penes or they dont lol. With probing we get into the size of the penes issue and Lord knows no guy likes that subject

Haha ya. I've tried popping on younger snakes but I can't get it down. I get the concept of it but I can't actually. I watched a guy pop a snake that turned out to be male & I tried it right after him & got nothing. I guess its one of those skills that you either have it or you don't have it.

Ok maybe I can pop. I watched a few videos to see what I was doing wrong then tried & it is female. I tried it on my pastel & spider who I know are males first to make sure I did it right.
