Convincing

I am trying to convince my mother to let me buy a BP. But, she is not to fond of reptiles or rodents, which leads me to another problem. Should I feed my snake frozen mice? we have 2 fridges and freezers, so it shouldnt be a problem. But I dont think my mom would care if frozen mice were less healthy, she would not allow live mice. I think she dislikes rodents more then snakes. Do you guys have any methods to convince my mom?

Do lots of research about bp's so that you can show her that you are responsible enough to own one. I feed frozen/thawed to almost every bp I own, and they are growing awesome....Best of luck convincing your mother into allowing you to own a snake....

Like the above had said, definitely do some research and homework on caring for a ball python or any reptile in general.

Best way to convince your mother is assuring her that you will be a responsible owner. That she won't have to worry about caring for your snake. Show her that your more than capable of handling/caring/etc. of a snake.

Can't feed frozen solid mice/rat, I mean you could, but why would you? Anyway, no one that I know of or heard has fed frozen mice/rat and not thawed. Also the ball python will not even eat it at all. And being frozen could possibly cause harm to the snake. You have to thaw out the rat/mice properly before feeding it to your beloved snake.

I would advise that you buy your own separate freezer. I highly doubt your mom or any other family member would like seeing frozen rat/mice in the family freezer.

Thank you all so much! My mother is big on responsibility, so I think this will work.

It would also help if you show her that you are responsible in other things around the house. If you see something that needs to be done around the house just take care of it. Dont wait for her to ask you to do it..She sees you doin stuff like that and you're in:)

If you can switch your snake to frozen, do it. It might take a while but it's easier, especially if you have a breeder who will sell them to you frozen--it's cheaper than a pet store. :)
As for feeding live, I always told my mom when I was going out to buy snake food if it was live, and she knew when I came back to go in her room and put on some music so she didn't hear mice/rats dying. lol...
She HATES rodents. Hates them. But she still doesn't like to see them die.

Thanks. And of course I wouldn't feed then frozen solid, I would thaw them first. Im really looking for a breeder that started them on frozen their whole lives.

Remember, your Ball Python will eventually eat rats. Will your mother have any issues with frozen rats in her freezer? This is a big difference that frozen mice. This could be a deal breaker for your mom.

If she's anything like my mom good luck! ;) I didn't get my first snake till I was 21 and had my own house.

To help deal with putting frozen rats in the freezer here's what I suggest:

Suggest keeping them in a tuppleware/rubbermaid type plastic container, only one you cannot see into without opening it. Use a sharpie to write "snake food" on every side of it so no one accidentally opens it. Explain that since you can't see into it, people won't have to ever see frozen rodents whenever they open the fridge to get something to eat. ;) This has worked great for me with my flatmates who don't want to see a row of tiny icicle rodents every time they get a midnight snack.
