Adult female weight

Hi everyone,

Well I know most threads start with a title like so, but my question is a am looking at buying a adult female which weighs 800g according to the seller. Would it be possible to get her up to breeding weight of around 1200g+ for the breeding season in the Southern Hemisphere????

There is no way to be sure you might have a schedule but the snake is on her own schedule. She certainly could be, if she feeds well and is genetically disposed to grow rapidly.

I wouldn't call an 800g female an adult. Many 2010's are already pushing that size. A 2009 that size isn't the greatest of eaters IMO. A 2008 or older female that size is a poor feeder.

I have a pair of 09s males one is 1654gm and the other is 859gm they both have eaten everything offered mostly I think the smaller one has missed 3 or 4 meals where the larger has missed 4 until a month or so ago when he went off food all together. They have both been checked out (yearly check ups) that includes a fecal exam and both are healthy and good feeders one is just not growing as fast. That larger ones mother is a monster she is just under 5 1/2 feel and 4500 gms. She has produced many snakes over the years and I know of only six females that are mature and the smallest is 5 foot. They are just huge all of them. Size is a genetic trait and some get big fast and some don't. It isn't always how good a feeder one is.

When does the breeding season start in the Southern Hemisphere? Gaining 400g wouldn't be terribly hard. If you feed her a single small rat once per week, she might gain it in about 6 months or so. If this is a young female (less than 2 years old), I'd give her a bit more time to put on the weight for breeding. The general "rule" is 2 years old and 1500g. Now, that is by no means the law of breeding ball pythons. I have a 3 1/2 year old female that is 1350g and she's been breeding like crazy for a few months.

So if she's younger I'd wait a season and get her weight up a bit more. 1200 is a small female. There are older females that are just petite that breed just fine but don't rush your girl into breeding.
