Cleaning tubs

I have a 20 gallon long tank, which I spot clean every day. Change water, take out any feces or urine, I add and subtract substrate at least once a week (coco fiber substrate) and I completely clean and sanitize once a month. Now I made a rack with tubs, and was curious if the same cleaning schedule can apply to them or do they need to be cleaned more often because they hold humidity better. In the near future I may be switching to aspen substrate, I'm just worried about the tubs needing more cleanings. Anyone have any ideas?

I actually find I clean the tubs more often. The same spot checks but typically I have to replace so much after a urination I end up replacing most anyway so I just go ahead and clean the tub completely every time after a movement or water spill. So one a month is more like 2 a month. I once a month scrub out everything and clean the rack paying especial attention the underside of each shelf (the snake side).

Yeah I figured I was going to completely clean them out twice a month, which isn't a problem obviously. Thanks for your input :) I appreciate it.

yeah with the tubs watch them more closely too they aspen will seem to mold fater cause the sides will drip down a lot. ( I might just need biger air holes ) but I seeing a lot of condisation on my sides that are exposed to open air more.

I clean my tubs once a week on Mondays. I use newsprint as substrate, and clean the tub and everything in it if the cage is soiled.

I clean my once a week spray down clean re bed. I just feel like it with tubs it is so easy. I get the XXL trash bags use one for about a month then I dump it out and burn it. Pretty easy

Racks save space but not really time, or heating $$. At least mine doesn't anyway it runs at about 30% most of the time where my enclosures at 10% or less most of the time.

It doesn't take long to clean a tub but I do them much more often at the very least twice a month but sometimes 3 or 4 times. It takes me 15-20 min a tub to empty it wash it out disenfect it and do the top of its compartment (that is a real pain...). It takes me 30-40 min to do an enclosure and I do that when it is dirty. It usually is about once a month or once every two months. Not really a bit time saver space saver is different. I'll move all my animals out of the rack when I get the rest (if I ever do...) of the reno done. :rolleyes:

I like to use plain packing paper (can pick up a pack of about 150 sheets at Home Depot for around $10).

No spot cleaning, just throw the paper, disinfect the tub (I use Chlorhexedine diluted with water in a spray bottle), wash the bowls and hides (if you use them), and you are done.

If there is a really bad mess; I will rinse the tub out in the bathtub first.

Mm i do "complete" cleans more than i did when i had tanks just because its easier. I used like aspen when i had tanks so i did complete cleans less. But since going to racks i use newspaper so i clean it more just because u cant "spot clean" but regardless the time u take to "spot clean" tends to take longer than a complete clan for tubs with newspaper.

Throw paper away

Take a baby wipe, wipe down tub.

New paper.

Snake back in.

Less than a min per tub.

I've found that it's not really much different. They definitely do hold humidity better, but with the 2 tubs that I have for my corns right now, I still spot clean once a week (after they've eaten) and do a thorough clean (i.e. change all the bedding) once every 2 months. Since they do hold humidity so well, I've noticed that you have to be careful with any spills and make sure everything's kept very dry, but I'm sure with a bp it would be a little different. I'm switching mine into a tub very soon, so I guess I'll find out. I can imagine that if you're actually misting to maintain higher humidity, you might have to clean more often.

They really are so much nicer though! :D So much easier to pick up, dump out bedding, and move around! I was always skeptical when people suggested them before, but as others have said, I'm never going back to tanks!! The only tank I'm keeping is the 30 gal for my big creamsicle corn, and even that I might get rid of in the future.
