Not a winning shed...

so my pinstripe has gotten MOST of her shed off... except her freakin head! her humidity is at 70%. we have put a few extra things in there for her to rub on, yet she WILL NOT get it off of her head. she has gotten the rest off of everything else, what gives? it's been almost 4 days now. when do we start getting concerned? we have put a warm washcloth in there with her, which works for all the other ones, but with her... nothing. i have even tried to help a bit by trying to rub her head, but she's not THAT comfortable with me yet.

again, any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

dont worry about it .just keep your humidity up and wait for the next shed.

I would soak her in a tub with warm water in it for about 20-30 minutes. After the soak, take a moist towel and gently rub off any excess skin.

It will come off next shed if she seems to be rubbing at it to get it off then try the sticky but if not don't mess with it.

The other comment is that most humidity gauges are junk. I have a zoo med one that is 30% low. The test for the gauge is easy, if it is reading 70% and you have shed issues it is wrong.

Salt test, fill a cap or small container and fill it with table salt or road salt. I like to use about a table spoon or so. Add a a small bit of water not enough to even come close to dissolving the salt just enough to moisten it some. Place that and your gauge in a airtight container that you can still read the gauge inside. Wait 6 hours and read the gauge. If you are not a complete spaz (Like I am) and the ziplock bag is between 0º-80ºC it should be reading between 75-76%. If you are a total spaz it needs to be at 30ºC and it will need to be 75% exactly.

The ones I have decided I like (after trying many and testing them all) are the small brass analogue ones designed for cigar humidors THAT have a CALIBRATION screw on the back. The digital ones are erratic all over the board, I have yet to find a cheap one (under 75$) that have with in 7% (remember spaz here that just isn't good enough for me spaz I know) But the worst one was 30% low so that is pathetic the worst part is the best and worst were the same model and manufacturer.

The calibratable ones can be adjusted to be correct the digital ones that have that ability is fairly expensive and the adjustment is on the front and moves easily I thought an exploring snake would adjust for me... The brass ones I got ten for $65 and tested them all at once and they read within 2 % of each other and only 1% wrong from accurate, I adjusted the incorrect ones (easy by the way) and they have been accurate now for 6 months (Spaz I have to re check one every 2 months then switch them around and see if they read the same as that one does OCD I just can't help it...)
