Pinworms :(

I took my first BP to the vet on Monday, and of course had a fecal done to make sure he didn't have any parasites. He's been so healthy, healthy shed, healthy eater, I've had no problems at all. Well I got his results last night and he was positive for pinworms :(

Is this common in ball pythons? I'm also paranoid me or my son got it, but my vet said that was not probable. Of course if you google anything like this you get the worst case scenarios. Anyone have any knowledge about pinworms? I'm picking up his meds today.

They aren't a big deal in humans, so likely the same in snakes. Most likely recurves from the mice she eats. Was she ever fed wild mice/rats?

I'm pretty sure like most breeders do, he was fed live for the first few feedings then switched to f/t. He has been on f/t since I've gotten him and I know he was on f/t for a while before I got him. I figured he got it that way. Just didn't know how common this was, I've heard it can get painful in snakes.

From my understanding <I had a friend who got pinworms a couple times as a child from the family dog> Pin worm eggs need to travel through the digestive system in order to infest a host, most commonly when people get them is from smooching infected pets on the nose <since they lick their bottoms where the pin worms are laying their eggs>. The only way I could see you guys getting infected is maybe handling feces when cleaning and then putting your hands in your mouth without cleaning them first.

I agree I too heard the same thing, but it doesn't stop the paranoia lol. Kinda glad I'm so OCD when it comes to cleaning his tank and making sure we wash our hands, etc lol.

You'll know you have them if you or your child feel the need to itch the bottom A LOT :)

Just an update, I did pick up his medication today, he will be starting treatment on Tuesday after he digests from his meal tomorrow using an oral medication. Thanks for the help :)
