Gaining and losing weight during breeding
I just weighed my 3 females that I am breeding this year. They have all put on from 200 to 350 grams since introducing them from Nov. till now and they are all over 1500 grams. This month however there were only slight gains. One put on only 2 g, another put on 40 g, and the other lost 15 g. I believe they are close to ovulating, have been building the last couple months, side laying, seeking cool side, look huge, had pre ovy shed in late january, and have been off feed for about 3 weeks now. Is this lack of significant gain and some loss normal or does this sound like they arent going to go for me this year? any insight would be helpful. Thankyou.

Hard to tell from just weight gain. One thing you want to look for is the glow. Most females will start to get much lighter with blushing and overall coloration turning much brighter. I have females that look like fires when they glow, others the head blushing gets real light and faded.
The ovulation is the most important thing to see as that tells you exactly where you are. You should see the ovulation then 2 weeks later she will shed and then 30 days after that she should lay. These are approx times.
The glow leads up to the ovy so if they glow, they go!

They have def been glowing. They are fire, yellowbelly, and het albino but their heads are def very light and the blushing is more intense than usual and they look really shiny.

Should they have gained more weight this month or should they be losing weight? I have heard that females that decide not to go will start to lose weight.
