Heat Mat Inside Melamine Cage?

Also, what do I put over it to keep the corn snake from burning himself? I already lined the inside of the tank with one solid piece of linoleum and sealed it so its waterproof. I also have a rheostat. Please dont say put a piece of tile over it... im not sure how it would breathe if I did that...??? Ideas are welcome, thanks!

Do I even need a UTH if I have basking bulbs or heat bulbs?

BP's require belly heat, so a UTH of any kind is needed. But a heat lamp, will help aid in regulating ambient, hot side, and cold side temps. I use both a UTH and heat lamp for my BP's enclosure, but that's just me.

Actually the belly heat is a myth, it doesn't matter radient over head or belly both are fine for BPs. If you have a corn snake they have much lower temperature requirements. I don't know much about them but I understand the a regular room temp is fine. Check the care sheets on them to be sure.

Check out either ultratherm heat mats or t-rex heat mats (they are the same). I've been using them for years inside cages, taped to the bottom of cages, etc and they've never let me down. They are laminated and snake waste and water easily wipe off.

Using either your rheostat or your thermostat will ensure that your snake does not burn itself. In the case of the rheostat, experiment with which setting nets you the temp you want. Tape it down using aluminum ducting tape and cover with substrate.

This news about ball pythons requiring belly heat is utterly fascinating..............are you absolutely sure no other heat will do?
