Update on Bailey (Snow Motley Corn) and a question

I picked up this adult corn snake from my friend's boss, the snake is 6 or 7 years old. It was only being fed one mouse every 3 or 4 weeks. It was very emaciated, weighing only 108 grams.

After a 5 weeks in my possession, and with a nice weekly meal of a f/t weanling mouse, I am happy to report that he (just a guess) is now up to 155 grams! Hope he continues to fatten up.

My question is, what is a "good, healthy" weight is for an adult corn? Just so I know what to shoot for.

Here are some pics I took before feeding today. He just shed this weekend and his yellows are POPPING! Is it normal for snows to have so much yellow? does the motley make a difference?

Wow, it looks like he's doing great!! I bet he appreciates being fed more often, that's for sure :D

Well, it depends on the overall size of the snake, and since he's small for his age, I'd say just a little plumper than he is right now would be good, around 170-180 grams. It sounds like you have a good feeding schedule for him though, so I would just keep doing what you're doing and he'll be happy.

As far as I know (and I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to corn genetics) the motley gene is related to the pattern, so I don't think it would affect the color. It seems like all snows vary in color as they age, and some are just more yellow than others. You just got lucky with him!! He's so beautiful!! Like I said before, my snow is very pale white with virtually no yellow on her. I'm sure some breeders breed for the yellow, so that must be the case with yours.
