Craigslist glow

This is one of my rescue girls. I named her Sizzle because of the mass scarring. She had a run in with a heat rock a few owners ago. I'm not sure of her age, but she has been bred by my Spider. I'm not certain that she is gravid or if she can become gravid due to the scarring, but she is glowing after her shed.

Has anyone had any experience with breeding a badly scarred female? I have a needle on hand just in case she is gravid and gets egg bound.

How much/ bad is the scarring on the lower third of her body?

Since that is where a lot of the swelling will be after ovulation.

Looking at the scars I can see the ovulation would be the bit I was most scared about rather than egg binding.

But I have zero experience of this so these may well be unfounded fears. :oops:

The lower 1/3 of her body is ok. The middle 1/3 of her body is where the most of the scarring is. The scarring is bad.

Not to be rude but this might have been a better question to ask before breeding her.

I did do my research(Before Breeding Her) which all pointed to a snake reabsorbing eggs or not developing them at all if the reproductive organs are damaged from scarring. I Just wanted to know if anyone had on hands experience with a scarred female successfully having a clutch.

The problem isn't really her reproductive organs being scarred. If there is going to be an issue, it's going to be her skin not being pliable enough when she starts to swell with eggs.

Maybe it's just me, but I would think that a rescued snake like this one really shouldn't be used in breeding projects. Their bodies have been subjected to enough stress thanks to neglectful or abusive keepers who had them before.

I know this is a touchy subject, but I wanted to post an update. My scarred female (Sizzle) Laid 3 good eggs, 1 small unfertilized egg, and 1 slug. It is interesting because I only palpated 3 before I reached her scarring and could not feel anymore.

She laid the 2 good eggs first, than the weird shaped egg was right where her scarring started. The small unfertilized (52 gram) egg was directly underneath her scar. The slug was on the other side of her scar (towards her head).

The eggs actually developed to fit her body. Where she was not pliable, she developed a egg that was 1/2 the size of the others and a slug.

The 3 good eggs weighed in at 312 grams
Unfertilized egg 52 grams
Slug 32 grams
Momma was 1444 after laying:)

That's pretty cool. Nice job with the rescue. I've heard of heat rock burns but never seen one... poor girl :(

Thanks! She was not in that bad of shape when I got her. She was a little under weight because they were feeding her mice once a month. I bought a group of 3 girls and 2 55 gallon tanks. It was his daughters snakes and she was getting married and moving out. They were in the corner of a cold, dark basement. They had one small heat pad on each 55.

I bought the whole package. I got home late and moved all the snakes into 1 55 for the night until I could get tubs set up. I got home from work and one of the females:confused: LOL was locked up with sizzle. He got rehomed a few days later. I was not that good at popping back than. I really did not care though. I just wanted to get them into a better place. That was a little over a year ago. Thats what made me decide to breed her to my spider male. I figured that the damage was done.

She is now a happy bigger snake. She loves her rats! She is 450 grams heavier after laying than when she arrived:)

His daughter was also afraid of her:( She loves to come out of her tub and be held!

She may not make the best of breeder, but is a really sweetie! I think she will at least produce enough to cover her feed bill.

The other female that came with her gave me a beautiful clutch of 5 last month:D
