agressive boa

I bought a peruvian / columbian cross and its agressive in an out of cage. Is this typical for the peruvian line as all my columbians are greaaaat snakes.I've been trying to handle alot ( at least 30 min to a hour per day sometimes more but its a struggle) but no changes and its getting old. He just will not calm down and will bite if he has the chance.I really do not want him to be a no touch snake , but I've been working with him about 6 mths now an no change. I was going to breed back to another columbian but I do not want to till I can tame him down. Any ideas ? Thanks

I don't know alot about the peruvian line but I had a Guyana rtb that was about a year and a half old from a pet store. He was well taken care of but I think he became accustomed to not being handled because he seemed to hate it. He'd strike at me and try to get away if I even touched him and he would wildly swing his head back and forth trying to get away from me.

The only suggestion I can think of for getting your boa to calm down is to try handling less, start off small. Handle it once a day for 5 or 10 minutes then put it back do that every day than in a month or two move up to 10-15 minutes.

I could never get mine to calm down and I ended up selling him to someone who wanted to breed him.

I'll also suggest the same thing I was told.

I would seriously suggest you think long and hard about his attitude. I don't know how old your snake is but I'd bet he/she's not full grown. If he's aggressive when he's young I'd suggest some serious sole searching about whether or not you want to have to deal with the snake when its full grown. If its a trial now and you are already unhappy imagine how your going to feel when the snake weighs 8 to 12 lbs and is 7 or 8 feet long.

I could be wrong about the size but even if its only 5 or 6 lbs and 6 feet long the point is the same. These snakes get big and there size is something that needs to be taken seriously.

This was the advice I was given when I posted up on here asking what I should do and it's very good advice.

I got him from a private party and I do not believe he was handled as much as they clamed. he is about 4.5 ft. and I will cut back on handling for a couple mths and see if that works if not I may have to resale him . he is a beautiful snake I hate to part with him. Will post pics but right now no camara right now . Thanks alot

I had a Columbian Red Tail that got exceptionally aggressive the older it got. I ended up having to give it away to a breeder. It wasn't suitable for a pet snake. Hope it works out for you!

i have a Yellow Anaconda... they can be very agressive at times. A VERY important thing when trying to tame a snake is to not let them learn that if they strike they will be left alone. Anytime he strikes at you, hold him with one hand on the center of his body and hold him with your other hand closer to his head... his neck i guess? hold him tight(obviously dont strangle him) that way he cant strike at you again. hold him there until he calms down and then slowly let him go and hold him a while longer before you put him back in his setup. That is what i have to do with my girl when she gets agressive. Good Luck!
