    Set Up/Question
I currently have my snake in a 40 gallon breeder, UTH, and red light bulb to get accurate temps for cool and warm side. My UTH and red light is on 24/7 since my house gets cold. I do allow little sunlight in my room to allow day/night cycles.

Now my question is what substrate is better for my ball python cypress mulch, or coconut fiber?

Also I eventually want to get my snake out of a glass tank eventually. I hate screen lids! I still want a display setup though. Any suggestions?

I would recommend a cypress substrate like: http://www.serpenturf.com/ and a display case like the ones RBI sells: http://www.reptilebasics.com/reptile-cages/

I am thinking about purchasing a cage from that company. What size would you suggest? What heat source do you recommend, and finally should I get the fluorescent lighting installed?

    Re: Set Up/Question
I use flex tape with a good thermostat. I don't spend money on lighting, bp's do not need it. The room where I keep my snakes has 2 big windows so I don't need lights to see in the cages..

Yea make sure you get a t-stat if ur going to be using a UTH. IMO i say if u do not have a tstat that should be the FIRST thing u buy even before a new cage. It gets to hot and the snake burns going to cause a lot more problems.

The room my snake is in gets very little lighting. As for a thermostat what is a good brand to buy?

    Re: Set Up/Question
Ball pythons do not need more than natural light to thrive. As for the t-stat it all depends on what you want to spend. I use a helix for my rack, and am very happy with it. Allot of people like the herp stat's. There are cheaper ones that work great, I just don't have any experience with them so I can't recommend them...
