    Types of Mice affect BP?
I have heard conflicting info from other people and decided to post my question on here before i cause any issues with my snake.

I raise "fancy mice" as they are much more interesting to look at than plain white mice. I have longhair, shorthair, and Fuzzy Hairless/Hairless

I was told that long haired mice can cause blockages and that FH/HL mice can cause issues as they have no fur.

Has anyone had any issue feeding these types of mice not necessarily just for BPs any snake is fine.

    Thanks ahead of time! :)

I know from working at a Vet office that long haired cats have MUCH worse hairballs than normal cats. But how long are the fancy mice fur compared to the not-fancies? I suspect feeding nothing but hairless would make for less firm poop, since the hair is often the main part of the poop. They don't seem to digest it at all, so it theoretically could cause a blockage if the hair rolled up in their guts. Just because I'm paranois I wouldn't feed the long hairs, but I'm pretty sure in a pinch fuzzy or hairless could be fed once and a while without much problems, it just might make clean up, um, gooeyer... yuck!
I know some people feed gerbils, hamster and other odd prey rodents and they might have varied hair lengths, but they are generally pretty short.

Though I'm pretty sure they should mostly eat mice with fur because for some predators, hair is like fiber for animals that eat plant matter, it helps keep the poop together and keeps them from getting contipated. Since snakes eat whole prey, I would be hesitant to alter their food items too much, ie: boneless/gutless or hairless mice might be missing some component that helps them in a way we might not understand yet.

Do you feed your snakes live or PK? Maybe you could shave the really fluffy ones if they are PK. Shaving a live feeder seems a little too morbid to me... :D

There are people who feed hairless rats all of the time and see no issues.

I can imagine a large rat has triple the amount of hair any adult long haired mouse has, ever heard of an issue with hair on a rat?
    Feed away ;)

XD I think a hairless rat would be easier for them to eat, anyway!

I'd never thought of the hair aiding in digesting, that's interesting.

I had been considering breeding a couple hairless rats for my snakes in the event there are feeding issues. Hairless have high body temps, so may be more interesting to a snake that's not interested in taking f/t or live normal rats....

Ok just figured i'd get opinions from others that raise snakes before I go making a mess and having to take him to the vet. I mean their hair may be like about the length of a hamster. Now since he eats (when he decides to eat again lol) 2 every week would it be ok to feed one furred one Fuzzy Hairless? since he would still have eaten a haired mouse

I don't think the hair has much to do with digesting or not digesting so feed hairy ones and feed naked ones, all good :)
