An easy way to accept credit cards?
Have any of you guys heard of the Square credit card reader? It’s a little credit card reader that plugs into your iPhone/android phone and lets you take credit card payments with just your phone. No monthly fee, no commitments. You just pay 15 cents per transaction and 2.75% of the transaction amount. I just signed up for an account and they mailed a free credit card reader. I just have to download the corresponding app.
I happened to see an article about it in Bloomberg Businessweek and decided to check out their website.
Here is an article about it form PC magazine http://www.pcworld.com/businesscente...d_of_cash.html
    Here is there website https://squareup.com
Everything about it seems legit. The guy who started this company is the co-founder of twitter. To me this seems like it would be perfect for a small time BP breeder. Really perfect to have when vending at a show. What do you guys think?

I've heard good things about that square from people that use it.

I think it's a good idea. A lot of vendors at shows take PayPal as well.

Please let us know how this works out for you. It sounds like a great little gadget to get. Reptile vending, craft vending, photography, etc. Super awesome.

Sounds like a great gizmo to have so your not lugging around a laptop or big card reader. How do you handle the 2.75% fee? Would you just absorb the cost or tell buyers there is a credit card fee and charge it to them? I couldn't imagine charging some one for a small transaction but what if you sell an animal in the 2k+ range?

I use it. It works very well!

The only downfall is having a good smartphone, and connecting all of your accounts etc.

It takes 30 days to get all of your money into your account, however.

The first $1000 gets transferred immediately, and the rest in 30 days.

If you are patient, it is a great tool.

EDIT: And the 15 cent charge is no longer being charged as of this past week.

I ordered one for my IPAD. I figure it could be handy for anything even beyond snakes sales. Like people would buy so much more stuff at your yardsale if they could pay with their card. Craigslist sales! I could pull it out next time one of my daycare parents say "oh I forgot my checkbook, I'll pay you next time". That has gotten really old  . It looks to me like the rate is similar to Paypal fees and I use that for all of my ebay sales. So it looks fairly affordable to me.

Yeah from what I read it looks really simple. They just recently changed the fee to a flat 2.75% for swiped cards.
