Hello From Alask :D

Hello, I am fairly new to snakes in general, I have owned a Normal Corn snake since last december but have learned alot from online research and a corn snake forum im on. I got a corn snake first because I read they are suppose to be like the perfect beginner snake, and mine has been great.

I have always been fascinated by Ball Pythons and after a few months decided I wanted one. After looking around I found some one local who had one for sale, a 8 month old (im assuming normal) bp. I picked her up today and so far love her :D I am still learning alot about them but atm I have her in a 110 quart sterolite bin with a locking lid with a strap wrapped around to make sure she cant get out (To make the wife happy haha). So far she seemed pretty at home when I put her in there, she explored for about an hour before she finally went into her hide and hid. Also I havnt named her just yet though.

Any way I meant this more or less to be an introduction but didnt see a new members introduction part so figured I would do it here :D

I am still very new to snakes, but so far I have really fallen in love with keeping my corn and look forward to my new bp :D

welcome to the forum :welcome: you are going to find a ton of information on here. just gotta get familiar with the site and know where to find it.

you may want to re-think your BP setup. its too big, and is that pine tree in there?? you should get a more simple tub setup. check out the husbandry section, lots of good info there

This site is very informational and everyone is always willing to share advice on anything you may need.

I have two pieces of advice for you. That tub is huge for her. 41 qts is the largest I get and only for my adult females so they can thermoregulate as much as they want. A sweater box sized tub would be plenty big for her right now. A 28 is the biggest I would go. The other thing I would say is get rid of the pine branch. Pine is actually not recommend for BPs, as bedding, and I'm sure the sap/needles aren't good for them either (or wait, are those Christmas tree branches?). I suggest using fake plants only because you never know what plant is good or bad for them. A tub that large will be harder to keep the humidity and temps at the right levels. Change those two things and you will have the perfect set up, given that you have the right temps. Shorter/smaller tubs will only require a heat mat to keep the temps up, that tub would be just like a tank and need a heat lamp (unless your house is really hot).

I should have posted before, thats not a pine branch :D . Its a fake branch off of a fake christmas tree :D Its all plastic with a metal core, I knew not to use a real pine branch. The hides Im using are made out of birch but have been baked and dryed and give off no smell at all and I have done alot of research and used them with my Corn snake with no ill effects. As far as the "green" stuff is all fake.

Thanks for letting me know about the tub because I honestly had no idea it was that much to big for her. My corn snake is in a 29 gallon fish tank (For now) and he is on the verge of to big for it but he is 37 inches long too, so I thought the BP would grow faster and I had this big bin so I went ahead and used that but Later today I will run into town and get a smaller one to put her in instead. Right now im using a small UTH with some tinfoil to expand the heating area and keeping it at 88.5f on the hot side. The bedding im using is aspen (again, same I was using for my corn snake) inside on the floor. I will have to run into town in a little bit though and get a smaller bin, I think I payed $20 for this big one (110 quart) so a small 28 quart one should be fairly cheep.

O and I just wanted to mention the birch log hides are baked at 350F for an hour to an hour and a half then were set out to dry for a full month before they went in the BPs ( I really need to think of a name haha) set up.
