Time from first lock to visable building ?
So, I've done a number of searches but haven't found exactly the answer I'm looking for.

By breeding season started way late, but my snakes were off to a strong start, as if making up for lost time. My boys visit their ladies once a week on Wednesday, they go back to their own tubs on Saturday, they eat Sunday or Monday { sometimes } and back to their ladies on Wednesday again.

My biggest female is eating voraciously again, the other two are still hit and miss. I was cleaning tubs this past Saturday, and I noticed that the biggest girl is noticeably larger around the middle than she was a month ago before her first lock. Could she be building this soon, or is it more likely just caused by her appetite ?

I know I've got a long way to go before eggs, but it seems odd she's already gotten larger.

Nobody can even give me a guess if she could be building after a month or if it's just extra food ?

Locking and building are, for the most part, independent from each other. There is some evidence that breeding can help to start a female toward producing follicles, but females also build follicles without ever locking with a male.

So there is no set time between a female locking and starting to build follicles. Actually, there is no guarantee that a female that locks will even produce follicles, let alone eggs. Keep doing what your doing, watch for an ovulation, and keep track of when they shed. Keep notes and you'll be surprised how quickly you'll have everything down.

This time frame can vary widely as females will start to build when the time is right for them. The locks really don't affect when a female starts to build. What you do want is some good locks once your female does start to build follicles. Like the previous poster stated females will build follicles even if they have not been bred and with the introduction of sperm from the male they will usually just reabsorb the follicles. Again like the previous poster said keep a notebook and record your females behavior and you will see the same females will show the same behavior year to year. I start pairing up in the beginning of November and most of my females will start building around January. Some of them will start to ovulate later this month, while others will be much later. Just keep pairing and watching for the signs leading to ovulation.
