Need Advice on display friendly snake~

My bp isnt going snywhere, literally (he wont come out of his box).. I dont plan to get rid of her but the wife wants a snake that will be happy in a 55gal terrarium. Maybe an arboreal diurnal snake that'll slither & climb around & look pretty for her. I dont want it to grow out of the enclosure and would like something that is asthetically pretty to look at... Dunno, thought about a BRB but am unsure if I should go python, boa, corn, etc..

What are yalls opinions?
Anyone have a good lookin' snake in a display tank?

I like gtp but they can be nippy and don't more too much... If she wants to see the bp move have her look at it around 1am--3am when it's the most active...

I too like gtps i think they are just awesome looking snakes but i also prefer and more handable snake that i can take out all the time and let hang around my neck. So if your going for handable. I like the RTB and BP then the Corns

And no display tank yet Hope to have one soon though :)

Hands down the Russian Ratsnake !!!

While plain as babies, the adults look quite striking. Better yet, as long as your house is comfortably heated/cooled, you do not use any heat on them.

They do love to climb a bit, and usually love to hang out in the open. They watch intently what everyone is doing around them. They seem almost intelligent. They get quite big and heavy bodied for a Ratsnake. They are curious and very handleable, up for anything !! They are the closest to a "buddy" you can get in a snake, imho ;) They don't usually hide. They will make good use of branches and decorations ;)

A very fun, uncomplicated display snake, one you can also enjoy outside of its cage :)

Morelia Spilota (diamond python), and any of the subspecies (carpet pythons).

Carpet pythons make good display snakes, however their temperament is pretty variable. I've met some that were absolute dolls and others that were quite fiery.

Another thing I can suggest to you is to try a boa. They don't generally hide much, and don't even need hides past the awkward baby months. They'll generally sit out and just chill, and they've got great temperaments. Yes, boas can be large depending on the locality, but if you go for a Nicaraguan/Central American boa the females rarely surpass 5 - 6 feet as adults.

:DSWEET:D Very good article! I hadnt heard anything about these guys before but successfully bred the TX Rat Snakes for years altho their temperment is not very snakekeeper freindly to say the least..

Yes on the boa. We have a Dumeril boa and he is great! Hes soo calm when handled and out of his enclosure! 90% of the time he is visible, hanging out in the open. Great looking snake, looks kinda intimidating at first! As for the carpet, i just got my first one about 1 month ago and hes a jerk, all he ever does is bite me. He is a youngen still so im trying to handle him as much as i can to get him used to it.

I've seen really tame GTPs. I won't have one any time soon because they are really expensive. They are really cool display snakes though.
