Misting during shed?

Hey all,

When I mist during shed, I'm not comfortable with how damp it gets in the tub. I'm using paper towels as substrate and after I mist the humidity goes up to 80%+ and there are water droplets everywhere. My question is, is this safe for the week of shedding? Or will it cause RI/scale rot, etc?

I use newspaper and things get pretty dry her in Phoenix. When they are in shed I spray the back of the cage down right where the heat tape is. The tubs "steam" up but don't get wet. Hope that helps.

That makes more sense. I just changed her bedding to dry paper towels, wiped down her tub and then misted the hotside bedding to increase humidity. That way 2/3's of the cage is dry for her to go to.

When you mist, the water should dry up within 24-36 hours. If it doesn't you either don't need to mist, or you can mist a little bit less. The tub should not be "wet" for more than a day or two. After that you run the risk of mold developing and possibly scale rot. I don't think your snake would get an RI from wet conditions.

I usually mist and have no problems (though it was never in a tub) but for just the shedding period it should be fine as long as the stuff dries out as it should (as was stated above, 24 - 36 hrs). If you still don't feel comfortable with it, misting the hot side as was suggested is a good way to go as well.
