    Using/Mounting of CHE's
In my 55g terr. Im using 2 UTH's & a red heat lamp. Im dealing with the humidity issues with sceen covers & moist Sphagnum moss & misting daily. Im still coming up short on ambient air temps altho the hot & cool side topical temps seem correct at 86 & 92 respectively.. I have read several posts on using a CHE for infared temp control.

Would one mount this the same way you would use a heat lamp? ie, with a light hood or by itself? Do they sit atop a screen lid or mounted on interior. I plan to switch to one of these and use a rheostat to control the temp.

    Comments & advise appreciated..

    Thx in advance,
    Lucas

Cardboard covered in aluminum foil, cover 80% of your top with this to help bring your humidity back up.
It is hard to get ambient temps up in a 55gal. So have recommended insulating with cork board on the back and sides.
I started there and now its my ASF tank and all of mine are in 20 longs now

I have the cardboard top with foil around it altho Im a tech at a glass lab so Im gonna cut me some plexi to cover half the tank vs the foil wrap.

That's a good idea about the insulation. I've read it before but musta slipped my mind. I have 3/4" foam insulation at work that companies use to pad their crates with. I think I'll bring some of that home tonight and try painting it black and attaching to 3 sides..

Still am unsure of the use of a CHE. I want to get rid of the red heat lamp as it's not helping the humidity..

    Thx for the response 'Pit'..:gj:

Hmm, I kinda had that feeling. Is the setup the same as a bulb? Im hoping the insulation I put around it today will help temps but I think I'll still need more than the uth's.. I'll see what it does after a day & I should know if I need additional heat..

    Thx again:)

I bought the 2 CHEs only because petsmart had them on sale for like $4 each or less I think. LOL

Do you have your water bowl on one of the heat mats? It does help.

No I have the water bowl in the middle of the tank but I do have small bowls of saturated moss over both heatpads, one on each end..
