Handling question once again

Hi all,

I just got my first bp on sat. and i am in love with him. He is about 7 months old and I left him alone for the first two days i had him so he could get used to his new tank. I have been handling him once a day since monday and every time I pick him up he never seems to like it. He is always in his hide as well but not sleeping. Im still very new to this but I was wondering if there are ways that you should hold them properly and if your snake seems shy how to get them more used to holding them.

It takes time and patience. Some will grow to love the attention, others will abhor it forever. Only time will tell. They usually stay in their hides as that is where they are comfortable. They stray out of them usually when hungry or thirsty. But will also wander around when feeling stressed. They are most comfortable when in their hides. You also need to give t more then 2 days to acclimate. Try a week and then take it out for a short period at a time. Oh yeah, welcome to the addiction.

Personally I do not handle any of my new bp's until after they have eaten for me. The only exception that I make to this rule is if their tub needs to be cleaned. Even after they eat for me I try to keep the handling to a minimum until they have eaten a few times. Then when I start to handle more often it is for short periods of time, 5-10 minutes at a time once a day. They slowly start to get use to being handled. Please remember not to handle it for 2 days after feeding so that it has plenty of time to digest its food. After a while I slowly start to handle them longer. This seems to work good for me.
