Comfort?
So my boyfriend and I got a pinstripe last Tuesday, and I was just wondering what indicated a snake being comfortable in their environment?
I've read that if they're doing long flicks of the tongue it's a good sign, but other then that how would I be able to tell?
The only behaviour I've noticed about him so far is that he's always in his hides, but most of the time likes to pop his head out, he seems at ease, and is "licking" a lot.

i purchased a 5yo ball almost a week ago and i cant really tell if shes happy or not. she sometimes makes noises that dont sound like hissing but she does wander around her tank flicking her tounge a lot. what do you think?
sorry for the thread jack

If he stays in his hide he's comfy :) If they are out roaming all the time day or night they are trying to look for a safe place to hide. I've never heard anything about their tongue, frankly I don't know how you could judge by that. They flick faster when they sense heat/smell food. I have an '08 who always hisses at me, and a couple '10s that hiss at me every now and again. They do it because they are agitated and don't want me to bother them, but do I listen, nope! :P

The wandering around part sounds like she's just getting adjusted, but if she keeps doing this for much longer it could be a sign that she's not comfortable. As for the sound, is it like a wheezing noise? And do you see any mucous or bubbles around the moth and nose? It could be a sign that she has a respiratory infection.

i have not seen any mucus around her nostrils or mouth but i am keeping a close eye on her just to be sure

Okay, good. If she occasionally makes a little "squeak" that kind of sounds like a cricket chirping, it's more than likely stress and she should stop doing it once she's settled, but if she keeps doing it there could be a problem.
Also, if you ever feel like checking, there's this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK0Uvln4lY0
I found it really useful and it's the method I use to double check every now and then when I feel the need to do a random inspection :P
