Hydrofarm
I know this question comes up a lot but I wanted to make a poll to see what the official census is on the Hydrofarm MTPRTC Digital Thermostat. I'm getting a baby ball soon and I wanted to find out if it would be worth the money or if I should go ahead and getting something a little more expensive.

i have two Hydrfarms and one Herpstat
No doubt the herpstat works better, but the Hydrofarm is AMAZING and works almost just as good. If I set it to 88 - 90, thats exactly where the temp will be :)
Its 1000000% worth the money
Good luck

Re: Hydrofarm
Like any on/off thermostat the hydrofarm will swing 3-5 degrees if not more.
It's no better or worse than any of the cheap thermostats, Zilla, Repti-temp, a-life and others, they all work the same and all have had failures and successes.

If you are just using it for one or two setups, it should work out just fine. For a rack setup, I would recommend something a little more expensive.
I have heard lots of good things about the hydrofarm, though I have not tried it myself.

I use a hydrofarm for my 4 racks, it has runs perfectly

I really love my 3 hydrofarms. Yes, they swing about 2 degrees above or below set temp, but thats much better than any on/off therm. I've ever used. For the money, I'd way rather have one than a herpstat.
Cheers,

Re: Hydrofarm
I just got one last week, and I tested it on my incubator(which is empty) to see how it held temps. Must say, it only fluctuated about 3 degrees at the most. And I do not hear it turn on and off, so its not annoying! But, when I get eggs I will be putting the Herpstat II on the incubator and the Hydrofarm on the small rack.
So far, so good!

I have one on my quarantine rack. It's alright, but I still prefer Herpstats. Even a higher end On/Off like the Ranco is better. At least that one is more accurate and only have 1 degree swing.
I have known a few people where it worked amazingly and a few people who hav had multiple failing units.
In the end, what you pay is what you get.
