AVG. Cost for vet visit, sexing, checkups, etc for my Rescued BP

I recently obtained a beautiful BP.. I was told it was a she but Im sure thats a guess as they talked about size of head & length.. Anyway she seems healthy & has no blemishes.

I would like to eventually try breeding. What is an avg cost for sexing and a general vet check?

It will very from vet to vet one thing you need to make sure is that you go to an HERP vet, you can find HERP vets in your area by using this site http://www.arav.org/ECOMARAV/timssne...t_mdsearch.cfm

Once you find a few vet call around and ask them.

Good thing to do would also to get a fecal done while you are at it.

It's usually whatever the initial fee is, unless they do something extra, do a fecal float, or give any meds. Like Deb said, since you are taking it to the vet you might as well get a fecal float done. If I remember right it's only $10, $20 at most. I took one bp to the only 'reptile vet' in the area, a 40 minute drive and it was the biggest waste of my life. Luckily it was only $35-the initial visit fee.

Thx for the info, I actually picked up the snake from a foster parent that worked at a Bird/Reptile Animal Clinic. She had no info other than it was around 2 1/2yrs old.

So once I find a vet closer or go to the one 30miles from here where I got her, would I just bag some fecal matter to take with me? I figure I can take the sample the next time and bag & refrigerate till I can schedule an appt??

Oh shoot, I don't know what the rules are for snakes, but I would think it would be the same with dogs. I'm thinking it needs to be fresh and not put in the fridge or anything because the bacteria needs to be alive. With my dog I had to take it in within an hour if I remember right. My dobie is super sensitive and had a really bad reaction to all the vaccines when she was a pup. They said bring it in asap, no old poos, no fridge, no freezer, no mixing it, just put it in a plastic bag right after it happens and bring it in. If it's not a big deal to drive back there when your snake poos you don't need an appointment or anything, you just drop it off and they call you with the results.

You'll want to call the vet to make sure the protocol for snake poo is the same as it is for dog poo. I'm still thinking you won't be able to cool it or keep it for very long.

Edit: Oh! You could just take it to the closest vet when it does happen, any vet should have the equipment to do it, they don't need to be herp specialists.
