I want to build an enclosure for my bp

I want to build a nice enclosure for my snake but I don't kno where to start. I was thinkin plexiglass. Please give some tips on what to include and a good material to use. Thanks!

Well this may cause more questions than answers lol but I recommend wood instead of plexiglas due to it provides a more secure setting for the comfort of your snake. That being said...if you have a Lowes or home depot near you they sell boards they call "edge glued pine panels" they come in widths of 12,16, 20, and 24 inches. I would recommend 24 deep for your enclosure if space allows as it provides more room for your snake and more options for setting up hides and what not.

Now these panels are pretty inexpensive overall and once stained look pretty close to furniture quality. If you search some of my older posts you can see a cage I built out of them which I made to hold 8 snakes. If you have more questions feel free to pm me or just ask in this thread and I will check it periodically.

I have built probably 30 or 40 enclosures over the years, I am by no means a carpenter but I have made a lot of mistakes and if you want I can help you figure how to put together a nice enclosure. Hope this helps have fun and good luck!

Thanks! Ill go check out home depot. I was thinkin like a wood frame but with plexiglass in it so I could see my snake easier. How easy is it to keep them wood at the right temp and humidity? I thought maybe the plexiglass would hold temp and humidity better... I appreciate the help.

It holds the humidity really well and is way better at insulating the heat Than glass. Just paint the inside with exterior paint or if you prefer the look of stain coat it with polyurethane after staining it so it seals well.

I'm gonna go with the wood. I'm gonna have my friend paint a jungle like theme on the inside.

Plywood is probably your best option. 3/4" plywood is a great choice. You can build a great ball python cage with one sheet of plywood as long as you keep the enclosure dimensions at 36" x 18" x 18" or smaller. 36" x 18" is a great size for a ball python. Most breeders keep their balls in CB70 tubs. These are about 34" x 17".

I would also recommend that you make one, drop down, plexi glass door.

Radiant heat panels are great in smaller enclosures like this.

Add a thermostat and your all done.

However, if you plan on getting more ball pythons in the future you might want to just consider building a rack instead.
