Is this true or Is someone just talking !?!?!?

Okay so Im fairly new to ball pythons as you can see in my previous posts regarding striking and temperament and how to introduce handling .

Basically this is just a question to ask regarding my spider ball python.

I went out of my way to find a reputable breeder and everything else to find my spider ball python .It is a 2010 spider ball ..... Basically as I said in my other posts he is a little nippy and striking and what not and I realize it will will take time to tame him down and get him used to handling but what kind of got me tonight when I was at the local reptile store and mentioning this to one of the employes I have this spider ball that is nippy and what not. All what I said above and that he has actually calmed down a little the last couple of times I handled him .... And I get an answer dude they will take time to tame down plus spider balls are weird snakes there different in that way with ball pythons.

So whatever that means .....My question is "are spider balls different " keeping in mind are the different besides the "wobble"

Just kind of ticked me off on how I got that answer after I went out of my way to get this certain morph and what not .....I just wanna know is this true or is this just someone talking for no reason ?

They have no idea what they're talking about. Spiders do have the wobble but are no different than any other BP.

Spiders are weird. The wobble is caused by a neurological issue attached to the spider gene. As you could imagine since it affects their head they are going to be a bit 'different'. Everyone that I know personally has 'weird' spiders, and they all love them for their odd ways. Mine used to be pretty nice, nippy as a baby, then got better. Now he's loony, he strikes at me every chance he gets without warning. A close friend of mine has a spider that's sweet as pie and great for anyone to hold, but he is a little 'different' just like any spider I've ever met.

To ease your nerves, there is nothing wrong with spiders that would warrant not owning one. It's rare to find a spider that has a life threatening wobble. Although they are different, it's minor and possibly unnoticeable for someone who hasn't been around BPs much. Granted I'm basing this off the spiders I know and have been around, but it's still more than just a few.

Edit: are you saying they are different as in more aggressive? That seems to be the consensus with the others. If that's what you are saying, then no, they are no more aggressive. Of the spiders I know, mine is the only one that is nippy into adulthood, he's an 09. The others I have met are just sort of...out of it is the best way I can put it. Mine is like that, I have to touch him on the head to bring him back down to earth so I can pick him up without getting bit. When I do it, it's like he jumps and thinks "what was I doing again?" I even have to do it when I'm holding him because he bit me while I was holding him one day. He gets a look in his eye, lol. From what I hear, that's the least likely time a BP will bite. Like I said, he's different :P He's probably my favorite snake personality wise because he's so loony.

In my opinion, no. I own several ball pythons, one of them being a male breeder spider. He's mellow and cool. Other than the wobble (his is actually more of a corkscrew) they are just like all the other balls. I think your guy was just talking to talk.
Also, try to relax about your spider. I read your other post about him being nippy and the general advice you were getting was/is good. Let him settle, then handle but not near feeding (before/after) He could have a good feeding response or just be a little more high strung.

My spider was a sweet heart and would eat anything in sight. I do still miss her, she was one of the prettiest snakes i've ever owned.

That guy is full of it. EVERY snake is different, genectics don't make one snake meaner than the other, as far as ball pythons are concerned. Green Tree Pythons are another story, but spiders are not more aggressive, nor do they take longer to tame.

Just keep holding your snake and over time your bond will form, you will love him, and then you will come on here and thank all your fellow snake buddies!

Well I have a killer bee male who is the most head shy bp I have, then I have a pewter bee who pretty much wants to strike anything moving.. I don't think it has anything to do with being spider etc, I think each is just unique ;)

My female spider is probably the most aggresive BP I have in my collection but once you grab her she will calm down BTW she is also eats anything you put in her tub.

Alright that all seems well said and that exactly what I thought I didnt think anything was different in terms of that ....

It just kind of bugged me and has been bugging me that I cant go to a reptile store and put complete trust or have no fear holding there ball pythons but its just bugging me that I have one of my own that I cant say the same about ...
