Moved to new encolsure, still stressed

Hey guys,

A but ago I posted about my ball python who has been really stressed out and refusing to feed. I was told that the only thing wrong husbandry wise was that he was housed with another bp.

Well since then I've moved him to a new enclosure, but he still seems to be really stressed out. I have his cage covered with a blanket to help provide a sense of security, but it still doesn't seem to help. He has two hides in the enclosure, but he doesn't seem to want anything to do with him.

Should I be concerned? Is there anything I can do to help him transition?

if the cage size is good (you don't have a hatchling in a 41qt right?) then what you do is leave him alone for a while. how long has he been in his own cage with a blanket over him?

Yep I would say leave him be a while.. Is he in a high traffic area?

I have a glass cage. my is in the livingroom and he did not eat thrusday friday so saturday i but a towl and he eat suday with no problem, then I but it back on there. try that

Ummm wut?

put a towl over the cage. My bp would not eat, then I put a towl over part of his cage then he started to eat again. love your undead mage.

Hey guys,

It's been about a week and I've got the hides and he's beginning to mellow out, but he still won't go into the hides. Is this normal?

I know I just need to be patient..... but he gets a little skinnier everyday, and I worry about him. Someone mentioned a paper ball trick that you can do where you crumple up paper balls and put them in his enclosure? Is this a good idea.

That can work. You crumple up a bunch of pages of newspaper and fill up the entire cage with them. However, it will be tougher to keep an eye on him. You can try that method, leave him alone for at least a week, and then try feeding again.

What kind of hides are in the enclosure? How big is the enclosure? What is the warm side temperature, cool side temperature, ambient (air) temperature, and humidity? Pictures can always help give us a better idea of what you're working with.

Hey Jason,

Zargoon PM'd me about this issue a while ago and his husbandry is spot on since he moved the lil guy out of his double setup. 10qt tub, two small hides, 90 on hot, 80 on cool, 60ish% humidity, etc.
