Any military members out there?

Well, I've been bitten by the herp bug! My wife and I made the mistake of going to a reptile shop and fell in love with a sav monitor, and as always, I keep my eyes peeled for any BP morphs. My question is, are there any military members out here who own multiple reptiles, and if so, how do you ship your animals when you PCS?

I only post this here because I know I'll get a response here and as I progress in this hobby I'm sure I'll acquire more balls than anything else!

I just get small tubs and bring them with me. Get the temp heaters like the hand warmers you can get to help them keep temps needed for travel, or you can pay to ship them via Fed Ex. You just have to have someone there to receive them with knowledge on how to keep them! If you go overseas you might be in some trouble.

Well, I'm a crew chief on 22's.... So I'll likely stay in the states for quite a while. However in the event that I do go over seas I'm sure I can find someone to care for them for a few years, I come from a large family of animal lovers! Would a tub be suitable for an animal as large as a monitor? And are the reptile shipping sites I see adds for worth it?

I have 45 BPs here, and still just over 8 years left until retirement...

I won't be PCSing overseas, but if I get stateside orders I will just go in advance to get the racks/heat set up and then either make an extra trip to bring the snakes, or shell out big bucks to have FedEx ship them. It depends on how far away I get stationed.

To be honest... I fully intend on staying here in Colorado for the next 8 years and then remain here after retirement. I may have to go back to Korea for a year in order to reset my time on station, but it will be worth it to be able to stay here. I really, really do NOT want to move all of these snakes! And I'd probably have 2-3 times as many by the time (if) I got orders.

i started right before i ETS'd and when i got out i drve everything to MA. if your still active you may not even be able to keep your herps depending on where you PCS to.

Well like I said I'm fairly certain I'll be staying state side for AT LEAST 5 years.... Hawaii isn't completely out of the question but pretty unlikely. Most likely I'll be sent to Alaska or Florida. Legally BP and any lizards other than Nile Monitors are fine in Florida and Alaska is pretty loose about their reptile laws, not a lot of snakes and lizards running wild there. With a ball Hot Hands are certainly doable, but I'm not sure about monitors. Anyone know when and where Fed Ex will ship?

Its just like with any animal preperations when PCSing, you will have to check out the local laws and plan accordingly. I had a friend PCS to RAF Lakenheath in England with her BRB. She did all the paperwork and had the animal cleared by a VET. However, Heathrow Airport's animal control took the BRB and she never saw it again. So my advice is, try to contact the airport animal control (for the specific airport you would be flying into) and find out from them what you should do.

I have 18 BP's right now and if I had to PCS I will take them in the car with me. If I get orders over seas my buddy that is about to retire will keep them for me.

As most said if you get PCS orders just tub em all and move them with you. Of course check any states laws beforehand. FYI no snakes are allowed in HI. Also shipping them overseas? Forget about it, nearly impossible and if you do it's even harder to get them back into the states.
After we both got out of service we moved to CT. We were stationed at FT Hood, TX. We had several turtles/torts, an Iguana, a dozen or so snakes, about 500gal of fish tanks worth of fish, a parrot and 4 dogs not to mention 2 kids. We had our house hold goods shipped and we moved all of our animals in a mini and a full size van. Needless to say we lost about 2k in fish some of which were a few years old. Everyone else was fine and transitioned with no troubles. The loss of the fish was pretty devastating though. One day I'd like to have another fish set up again that could rival what we previously had.
