    Shedding - Frequency vs Age/Size
    Hey Everyone,

My BP Tango had his first shed last weekend and he was pretty successful in getting almost all of his skin off. He just had a small patch of maybe 3 inches across the top of his spine behind his head and just a small spot on the top of his nose. I used the Bad Shed? No problem thread method and soaked him and the skin on his back came off no problem. He still has the spot on his nose (about the side of a thumb tack), but from what I read it looks like it's no biggie and will come off next shed (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here).

So this brings me to me question - He is probably about 3 1/2 or 4 months old and is feeding on a 7 day cycle at upwards of 15% of his body weight per meal. Is there anyway to estimate when his next shed would be? Or from your past experience how often do these young ones shed?

I know the signs of a shed, but I was just curious as to 'how often' I should be expecting him to shed based on his age, size, feeding schedule etc...

    Thanks for you help!

It depends on how much he grows. I've had them shed as soon as two weeks later, but the average is every 3-4 weeks I would say. If he is young and you are feeding him a lot he's going to grow/shed a lot more than a snake that is older and on a regular diet. My best guess is once a month, give or take.

I don't stress about stuck sheds. It's just another unnecessary thing to stress about IMO. The only time I would worry is if it involves the mouth, eyes, tip of the tail. Then you might want to try to get it off by rubbing a luke-warm wash cloth. The tip of the tail is probably the most troublesome, so I've heard.

My butter is still under 300grams and sheds every 4-6 wks. He also eats 2lg mice or 2rat pups(eyes closed) if available.
