Advice on what combos to get

Hi I'm new to forum so ill introduce myself, my name is Jon. I have many animals including darts, salt water fish, snakes, and lizards.

Now to my questions...

I already own a albino male but I plan on getting a few more snakes to have some thing to start my breeding project with. My plans were to get lesser female, a albino female, a pastel female and a bumblebee male. Next month at a reptile show I was planning on getting the pastel female and albino female.

This plan seemed good until i learned about the wobbles in bumblebee which has me reconsidering. Another possible snake i was considering was a lemonblast male but you don't get as many cool looking snakes as you would with the bee. I'm looking for suggestions for snakes in the price range of the snakes I already listed. I like colors that are bright colors and the possibility of getting lots of different morphs.

I'm looking at things from a investment perspective so I'm trying to purchase the best I can afford while getting desirable morphs.

Another idea I had was to just get all albino females instead of the above mentioned females. But my male albino has never bred before so id be at risk of him not being a successful breeder.

One more question about genetics... Are there any other morphs that have issues like the wobble or more prone physical problems. Examples such as kinking, birth defects, low survival rate?

Wait I have one more question I forgot. Is there a better time in the year to buy a snake? Will 2011 babies affect current price and be a better deal?

First off, welcome to BP.net :)

Wobble on spiders or spider combos do vary, but there are also some that doesnt show the trait. But that's not a guarantee that you'll never produce non-wobblers. But if its still an issue on your end, my suggestions are:
Pewter
Pastel YB
(im not sure if the next combos are in your price range)
Spotnose pastel
Enchi x Pastel
Firefly

Those I mentioned have all well defined colors and crazy patterns and will definitely complement your plan in gettin female pastel, lesser and albino in terms of producing more mutations/combos.

Since you're lookin things from an investment point of view, I suggest you concentrate on gettin just females (preferable double mutation) for now, since they need more time to mature compared to males. And once nearing their breeding age and size, that will be the best time for you to get a male that you like.

Gettin all albino females will only yield in gettin more albinos, w/c I find boring compared to producing a snake w/ double or even triple mutations. :)

Other morphs that has been discussed w/ genetic anomalies are Caramels (kinking), super cinny (duck bill), and pearl (doesnt thrive to reach adulthood). But there are also recent updates that some of those arent true (like the pearl, where a picture was posted just recently showing that it is thriving and can live normally)

Base on my experience, snakes do tend to be cheaper during the months of May-Aug since alot of clutches are being hatched. (law of supply and demand)

That was very helpful!! I agree getting all albinos would be boring. I just sold a old guitar tonight and made $950 so I'm thinking ill be able to get all of my snakes at one time and maybe who ever sells me them could cut me a deal?

Out of the listed snakes I couldn't find a good pic of the enchi x pastel or fire fly(don't know what I'm looking for) but i didn't like the other morphs, they looked to "normal" to me.

Ahh, but see, you're focusing to much on an immediate outcome.

To begin with, Pewters look nothing like normals in all honesty and can really add to any morph, but its what the YB gene is able to do to some snakes that is really incredible. Also, don't think the wobble degrades the value of the snakes you will produce. If you intend to breed high quality designer morphs, than the people who would be taking these snakes off your hands would likely know about the wobble, and subsequently, would know not to worry about it.

If you want instant awesome crazy lookin' balls, your gonna need a lot more than $950, but if your patient, and are willing to take a few seasons to introduce new genes that brighten, fade, darken, blush out the animals, than some of those "normal" looking snakes aren't a bad place to start. Check out NERD, they've made some beautiful snakes with the YB gene, Mystics, Het Axanthics, etc...

I agree with bsavage. The yellowbelly really cleans up any morph. I think one male to all of those females you mentioned would be too much for that male to handle in one season. And you asked about head wobbles and physical defects of some morphs. The super cinnamon can have some birth defects but its a pretty uncommon thing to happen(every so many clutches MAY have one) like kinking or a swelled nose.
