A new breeder with pairing questions
Since November 1, 2010, I have been pairing a Lemon Pastel male with 4 normal females using a 3 days in, 3 days out method. I have seen good locks with 2 of the 4 females and recently decided that I would introduce a 100% het albino male into the pairings to maybe spark something in either the uninterested females or the male who hasn't locked with the 2 females yet (that I'm aware of). I put the het albino with the first female and after 2 hours decided I would check on things. The female seemed to be desperately trying to get out of the enclosure and the male was balled up in the middle of the tub. I noticed slight blood on the paper substrate and noticed a small amount of blood near the females vent area. Because I'm still new to this, I separated them to prevent any possible injury. Is there anything with this that I need to concern myself with or is this normal behavior? Should I keep them apart or should I try to put them together again?

    Thanks in advance.

Well are you 100% sure they are females and males? Its normal to see a little blood from a male while he attempts breedings.

I'm pretty positive I have the males and females correct.

This was the first time the male has ever been in an enclosure with another female as this would be his first breeding attempt. Maybe there lies the different behavior? :P

Is the male producing sperm plugs? If not he isnt ready to breed yet.

From what I've seen and what people have told me is that a little bit of blood (among other fluids) is normal, especially if she is scenting up the place(tail wagging). She may be excited or pissed.

    LOL.

I verified last night that he is producing sperm plugs. I put him with a different female before going to bed and everything seemed good this morning. Maybe the other female was as you said, either excited or pissed. I'll try again with her in a week or so. Thanks for the replies.

I had a female last year that no matter what male I put in her tub she would run laps around it for hours on end and poop-pee-urate every where.. This year she's calmed way down and is letting a male breed her..

A little blood and pee and poop is perfectly normal just means one of them is saying "Hey baby how you doing":rofl: if you think it is stressing the female out you might try a few more times but no need to force it, she might be immature or just not interested.
