Scale Rot?

How does a snake get scale rot? is it a virus? or is it an infected open wound that doesnt get healed with proper care...

I saw some stuff on it and i dont even want my BP to get this!!

a wound can lead to scale rot, but it mostly occurs from poor husbandry.

Poor husbandry as in what? low temp low humidity? how come either one of those can cause scale rot?

One cause is lengthy exposure to wet substrate either by water or urine. Not keeping the enclosure clean...

Scale rot is fairly easy to prevent, especially if the snake doesn't have any wounds (such as from live prey). Just make sure the substrate is dry and keep the enclosure clean.

Yep, it's most commonly caused by a dirty wet tank. A snake that soaks in fresh water doesn't get scale rot, so it's not just from water. If you have a dirt/mulch type substrate it's probably one of the worse substrates to get wet. I'm not sure how long they have to sit in the wet substrate (whether by water, pee/poo, or both), but it will eventually happen if you don't get things cleaned up.

Would having a humid hide lead to scale rot?
