More Holes!?

Hi im having issues with lower the hum in my tubs, i switched from tanks to tubs and im using coco bark as the sub the tubs are 32qt and my hum according to the hygrometer is around 90%. I was wondering if i put more holes in the tubs would that bring it down or should i switch to a lower hum containing sub or both?

i would recommend switching your substrate. i have never used coco bark but i have heard more bad than good about it. but if you do decide to stick with it then try more holes evenly spaced out and on different levels of the tub for more ventilation which will bring down ur humidity

Smaller water bowel (if you have a really big one), more holes, change substrate will all lower the humidity. How are you measuring your humidity?

You can also try using an oscillating fan for circulation. You might have to play with the fan speed and distance from the tub, but it works...

Honestly, i've NEVER had to use cypress in a tub to maintain proper humidity, if anything it's too high when using cypress. I always use paper towels in my tubs and it gets them to around 80% with no holes, or around 65-55% with holes around the whole outer rims, on all sides.

So switch over to paper towels and you will find it easier to keep sterile and clean, and you'll know asap when your snake defecates.

As everyone has stated before, switch substrate first, then maybe water bowl, if still to high add more holes to the tub.

1) switch substrate. I recommend newspaper or similar.

2) smaller water dish

3) more holes. I dislike having so much ventilation that heating is difficult, so don't overdo it.


You won't be able to lower the humidity below the ambient humidity in the room that your ball pythons are kept in.

I changed to unprinted newspaper an added holes and also switched out some of the water bowls. I am currently rebalancing the heat and watching the hum I dont have to worry much about room hum seeing that I live in az lol

Coco bark is used to raise humidity and isnt good in tubs because it loses it very slowly.. i recommend switching to something like desert snow or aspen.. though even with a ton of holes in my tub I couldnt use aspen. desert snow is made by te same company that provides cyprus mulch and aspen so it is high quality and solved the issue for me.
