Trouble with warm side temps
So my new (and very first) BP arrived today! Pics will follow tonight when I get home :)
I'm having some trouble getting my warm side of my tank at just the right temp. I have a ZooMed UTH and a thermostat from Big Apple Herp. Links below to the exact product. I have to keep the thermostat set on about 81 in order for the temp to be 91-92. If I have the thermostat set on 90 (the temp I would like it to be) it kicks up the temp to like 116.
I have the thermostat probe placed between the tank and the UTH and the thermometer (digital) probe placed on the glass where the mat is. Do I have this setup correctly? Could it be why I can't get my temps just right?

I have the thermometer probe in the same spot as the thermostat probe except the thermostat probe is between the UTH and the glass on the bottom and the thermometer is on top of the glass in the tank. I was reading the manual for my UTH and it says to put some carpet on the glass in the tank so the glass doesn't burn the snake. Well if I keep my thermostat down to like 80, it keeps the temp at like 92. So maybe my thermostat is broken, I'll just keep an eye on it.

if the themo probe is under the tank its prolly gonnna be alot hotter than the stat probe inside the tank that maybe y theres a weird temp difference. I dont really know y u r measuring directly on the uth I thought the only time u do that is when using a heat rack. if the thermometer is where ur basing ur temp measurement it should be inside the enclosure not directly on the heating source. This is just what I have learned and part my of my own opinion pretty sure some one knows better. but I have used both tank and now im using rack with heat tape

You have the probes in the correct places. What type of substrate are you using and how thick is it on the warm side?

Try reducing your subtrate thickness on the warm side to about 1/2"-1". When the substrate is too thick it acts like an insulator and causes the heat to build up. If you reduce the substrate thickness to about 1 inch or less, it will let the heat dissipate and radiate into the enclosure easier and should give you closer readings between what your thermostat is set at and what your thermometer is reading on the glass... Hope this helps.
